The Sheriff's Office offers a broad range of Law Enforcement services that include a Community Service Section for Alternative Sentencing, a Juvenile Options Program, a Domestic Violence Enforcement Unit and a Landlord/Tenant Section. Howard County Sheriff’s Office also provides judicial enforcement and physical security for the Circuit Court. The most visible section of the Office is the Patrol Operations Division. These uniformed deputies work in marked cars in all areas of the county. Their primary responsibility is to serve court orders, summons, and subpoenas.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office involve in Student Intern Program with local colleges and universities. Sheriff’s office also offers annual scholarship opportunities to the graduating students of Howard County who are pursuing a career/degree in criminal justice, police science, or similar law enforcement field.

The most famous of all community programs that Howard county sheriff department participate are The Juvenile Options Program and TRAID. The Juvenile Options Program is for youth who have had contact with the criminal justice system and who have been identified as candidates for an intervention program, and TRIAD which is a three-way effort among the Sheriff’s Office, Department of Police and Maryland State Police who agree to work together to reduce criminal victimization of older citizens.
